What's On in the Shoe?

In Horseshoe Beach, you'll only run out of things to do if you're trying to! With world-class fishing, scalloping, multiple planned events a season, legendary sunsets, and more nature than you can hope to ever take in, Horseshoe Beach will never leave you wanting for more opportunities to make a day of it. Looking to explore a little more? Check out Visit Dixie for ideas on more places to visit around the county. No matter where you go in Dixie, you'll always be close enough to make it home to Horseshoe.

World-Class Fishing
With in-shore and offshore fishing opportunities, the possibilities are endless. Brought your own boat? Launch at the Butler-Douglas County Park on 8th Ave W, the Main St. Boat Ramp at Main St and 6th St W, or stop by The Marina for their trailer-saving lifts, fueling station, and perennially uncrowded parking spaces. Don't have a boat on hand? No worries, Horseshoe Beach boasts a number of fishing charters that will take you off the coast for practically guaranteed success.

Unparalleled Scalloping (Mid-June to Labor Day)
Ask anyone around here to describe why they find scalloping so delightful, and they'll likely say "scalloping is like an underwater treasure hunt for your dinner!" Horseshoe Beach sits within the Florida Gulf coast's least limited scalloping zone, making right here an ideal location to set sail for a scalloping excursion. If you've never been scalloping, be sure to book one of Horseshoe Beach's experienced charter captains that will show you how its done as they take you to their favorite scalloping holes.

Stunning Daily Sunsets
Whether it's partly cloudy, sunny, or almost completely overcast, it's a sure bet that 9/10 Horseshoe Beach sunsets will be dazzling. Even on the rainiest days, the sun still seems to find a way to peek through the cloud cover. Horseshoe Beach even has its own impromptu evening parade, as a dozen or so golf carts wind their way down Main St and 8th Ave W to Horseshoe Point or the County Park for unobstructed vistas, with just the shimmering Gulf waters and unbroken skyline in view as the last fiery rays of the warm Florida sun dip behind the horizon each and every evening. It's so routine around here, some of us have almost gotten used to it. Almost.

Festivals
Horseshoe Beach is known locally as a sleepy fishing hamlet; while that's true, folks around here enjoy a good get-together as much as anyone, and it's rare more than a month or two goes by without an event stirring things up a bit. Celebrations of fishing seasons, holiday shindigs, fireworks shows, and community fundraisers highlight Horseshoe Beach's sense of small town family fun in a big way. Keep an eye on our events page and make sure y'all come join us for our next celebration!

Nature Exploration
Though few folks look at Horseshoe Beach and consider it a gateway to nature, the truth is our small town sits just south of the Big Bend WMA, and just over 5 miles WNW from Shired Island, named by Sky News Magazine as the most accessible dark sky location east of the Mississippi. With two Great Florida Birding trail locations within a 10-mile radius of town, and expansive coastal grasslands to explore by kayak, the nature explorations to be had are only as limited as your imagination.

Library and Museum
Read the title of this section aloud and your kids will probably groan... That is, until you tell them the Horseshoe Beach Library offers two guest computers, a selection of DVDs for checkout, and free high-speed Wi-Fi available 24/7. Horseshoe Beach's Library also hosts our town's history museum, with information about our founding and growth from the late 1800s to today. Whether you need a book for a rainy day, a DVD for family movie night, or just a cup of coffee and a few minutes of Wi-Fi to read the news, Horseshoe Beach's volunteer-run Library and Museum is here to make your day just a little brighter.
